Pseudo Devices - Description

Adding a new pseudo device requires links to be made between signals, and dependencies to be set up between them. Using drag and drop operation, existing signals are simply put into the pseudo device list. The columns in the list are predefined according to the required use of this function, but their behavior and names can be changed if necessary. In a default configuration, dependencies may be configured for one video, eight audio, one timecode, and one data connection. This is a typical setup used, for example, for an HD tape machine. To make a clone or backup copy from one tape machine to another, you now only need to make one crosspoint assignment to make the others follow. Simply route the video output of one machine to the video input of the other, and the audio and timecode connections will follow.

Of course, total linking may not be what you’re looking for, so VSM cleverly provides control buttons to make case-by-case decisions to determine whether associated signals should follow or not. These can be provided on every control panel for fast operator access. Allow audio and timecode for clone copies or just use audio channels 1-4 for coding the tapes.

Other examples for the use of Pseudo Devices:

  • Remote cameras and their associated audio signals
  • Embedders/De-embedders
  • Audio grouping for control of stereo or 5.1 via mono audio routers
  • Simulcast operation for stereo and 5.1 transmission
  • Multiple transmission line management
  • Automated backup pre-switching
